Rejuvenating a Room on a Budget

Room DecorIf you have rooms with tired-looking décor or just fancy something fresher, then you are probably looking at ways to rejuvenate it. However, you may not be willing to spend the kind of budget needed for a complete redecoration, or may simply not be able to accommodate the disruption to your daily routine. If this is the case, there are several easy, low-budget things you can do to rejuvenate your room and make it look fresher.

Floor
If your carpet is looking tired and dirty, consider having it shampooed. You can either call in a professional service, or do it yourself. Carpets can be cleaned and shampooed by hand, or machines to help you do the job are widely available for hire. Shampooing by hand will be cheaper, but using a machine will be less effort and still affordable compared to a new carpet.

Another way to make your floor look fresher without replacing your carpet is to introduce rugs to the room. These will cover up parts of a tired old carpet with a fresh, new, attractive item. They will also move the focus of your eyes away from the carpet, meaning you are less likely to notice if it looks old and faded even in the areas where it is still visible.

Ceiling
The ceiling is often a neglected part of a room. When people come to redecorate, the ceiling often gets left alone while everything around it is changed and refreshed. It is true that a ceiling needs far less attention than the rest of the room, but that doesn’t mean it can be ignored indefinitely.

For example, consider whether the paint on the ceiling is discoloured, marked, or even peeling. White paint is very cheap, and it costs little time and effort to apply a fresh coat to the ceiling with a roller.

However, the most important thing to consider on a ceiling is often the light. Ceiling lights are frequently neglected when redecorating even though they are far more visible and noticeable than the rest of the ceiling. A light bulb hanging from a yellowing wire and surrounded by a dusty lampshade is never a good complement to a room. Instead, consider something new and more interesting, such as one of the beautifully ornate options from the Dunelm ceiling light range.

Walls
The walls are one of the most important things to consider when it comes to rejuvenating a room. You are literally surrounded by them when you enter the room, and they are directly in your eyeline. If you fully redecorate just one part of the room, make it the walls. A fresh coat of paint or new wallpaper can make the whole room look different.

Alternatively, try putting up pictures. These will have the same effect on the walls as rugs have on the floor. They can be used to cover up any specific flaws in your wall, and will generally draw the focus away from the wall and onto themselves. This will make any problems with the wall seem less noticeable by distracting the eye.
